I am a cobbler; my children wear the worst shoes.

I think I speak for us all in the industry when I say this. We work, sometimes tirelessly, all day on projects which are not ours to keep. We do what we do for other people and other clients. As our own clients, we are the worst. If we were our own clients, we’d have fired ourselves years ago. I know I certainly would have anyway. Personal site redesigns are not an easy thing to come by on the best of days, but they are necessary and we need to move with the times. This is the first time I’ve re-developed my site with real purpose. The layout, the responsiveness, the SASS, the navigation; everything has been a process of both learning and experimentation. It may not work, but it’s a step in the right direction. This redesign has been in the works for the better part of the year and has gone through various iterations and revisions over that time. It’s still not finished, but I think it was Jesus who said, “Ship it.” I’m happy enough with the condition of the site to release it as is and make iterative updates to it over time. I hope you like it.

It’s also the first time I’ve redeveloped and redesigned my own site with extensive feedback from others. Specific thanks go to my old pal and mucker Aidan Doré, who’s design feedback meant the world to me. He also made the icons for me on the top of the navigation and suggested some tweaks to the link designs. He did want his credit to look like this:

Much as I would have loved to have done him that service, I had to draw a line somewhere!!!

Everyone’s feedback on the Dribbble post of the logo’s evolution is greatly also appreciated (though ironically, a lot of the feedback was through Twitter, not Dribbble).
